The Society has a Board of Direction, vacancies in which are filled up by the Governor. The President of the Board is the Secretary for Chinese Affairs. The remainder of the Board are Chinese of standing, including the Chinese members of the Legislative Council. This board of Direction is assisted by a Committee honorary body chosen annually from among the most prominent and respectable gentlemen in the Colony,

and some members of the Committee attend personally every day to all detail. The doings of the Po Leung Kuk are subject to the fullest publicity both in the English and

more especially in the Chinese press.

A recent report by the Secretary for Chinese

Affaire states "It must not be forgotten that the Po

Leung Kuk fills a place in the Government of the Colony

which can be filled by no mere Government official.

The Committee works with an inside knowledge of the

Chinese mind, and with a host of unofficial corres-
